Early in February this year I made another trip to Varirata NP. I did not see a lot of birds but it was the best day for butterflies I’ve had up there.

Every year Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is visited by various migrant bird species. Some are regulars – arriving every year; others are only occasional. January 2016 saw the arrival of 3 Little Ringed Plovers – a species I have not seen in my 5 years at PAU. February saw large numbers of Brush Cuckoos on campus – regular visitors who love to eat caterpillars and other insects.
